| RESULTS FOR WEEK SIX: |
The answers we were looking for were:
NICK SIREK
DANNY BAECHTOLD
KATHY ADAMS
JAMES ABNER (a.k.a. TREVOR DAVIES)
JIMMY KWAK (appearing twice)
ANNA BENDALL
DANNY BRITT (a.k.a. NIGEL BUCKINGHAM)
| The true challenge behind this particular question was identifying fellow classmates by their voices, particularly classmates that were not named and whose voices you haven't heard in years (and some who probably do not sound anything like they did in 1985).
The two people that were probably the biggest challenge would have to be James Abner and Danny Britt, who used their stage names of Trevor Davies and Nigel Buckingham, respectively, of the musical duo known as K2. The "band" K2 had a very brief existence, as they were formed mostly as a parody of Central Rock Company, and their only "hit" song was a parody of David Bowie's "Blue Jean," a song entitled "Dung Ball" (being a reference to Shay Quillen's food project from Dr. Birdd's Biology class, which was actually a rolled-up portion of a Hostess Ding Dong). Jimmy Kwak has the distinction (?) of appearing in the song twice (after all, being the producer of the song), although he doesn't refer to himself by name in his first appearance. If you listen carefully, when he asks "why's it off?" (in reference to his mistaken belief that the tape recorder wasn't running at the time), you can hear Nick Sirek in the background mumbling "It's not off!" followed by bursts of laughter and James Abner snorting "Jimmy!" The other Class of 1987 participants in this song, Nick Sirek, Danny Baechtold, Kathy Adams and Anna Bendall should have been easy answers, as they identify themselves in a distinguishable manner. Although not a graduate with the Class of 1987 (but considered to be an honorary member), Jane Grande also appears in this song, professing her fangirl worship for Duran Duran. Since Band-Aid's "Feed the World" (the original song that "It's Easter, Isn't It?" was parodying) featured musicians naming their bands as part of their speeches, it is only fair that some of the participants in this song are also in bands of their own creation. There is the aforementioned Trevor Davies and Nigel Buckingham of K2, as well as Kurt Adams, Shay Quillen and Chris Staples of CRC (Central Rock Company), but also keep an ear open for Tassi Crabb of Curad (an obvious parody of Band-Aid), Eric Ryoti of Tofu (another obscure MHS band that actually existed in some form in the mid-1980s), Anna Bendall of Culture Club, Heather Hindman and Catherine Webb of Smash, and Dawn Quillen of (we think) Cantalopadope. In addition, Chris Reynolds, Eric Ryoti, Stephen Jett and Karen Staples all mimick lines from the "Feed the World" song. |

We received four entries to this week's contest. Nobody successfully named all seven participants, in spite of the fact that we said that we would accept the stage names in place of real names. One entrant did name six, including Nigel Buckingham, but not Trevor Davies. The other three entrants successfully named five, the participants who were mentioend by their real names.
THIS WEEK'S WINNER: |
Congratulations, Denny, your name will be entered into the random drawing that will be held at the end of this competition for the Grand Prize.
While we stated in the rules that if anyone else after the first person to get the most answers correct would be the second place winners, unfortunately, no one fit that criteria this week. Consequently, we've decided to change the rules again and have everyone who submitted five correct answers to be the Second Place winners for the week. So, congratulations also to Jill (Tracy) Darbyshire, Jane Grande-Allen and Tracy (Pesavento) Thompson; your names all go into the Second Prize Drawing!
Be back here on Wednesday, April 11 at 9am EST for the next Trivia Question!
