| RESULTS FOR WEEK THREE: |
We asked:
THE QUESTION: What were the names of the bands that performed at our Junior (1986) and Senior (1987) Proms?
And the answers:
The correct answers were: VELVET ELVIS (1986) and PARADOX (1987)
Due to the difficulty of this week's question, we modified the rules slightly for this week only: The first entry that we received that had both parts of the question correct would be the winner for the week. If no one got both parts of the question correct, then the winner of the week would be the first entry that we received that had the SECOND part of the question correct -- the name of the band from the 1987 prom. If no one got the second part of the question correct, then the winner of the week would be the first entry that we received that had the FIRST part of the question correct -- the name of the band from the 1986 prom.
We received three entries for this week (and one after the deadline). As it turns out, no one was able to correctly identify both bands. Only one entry had a single correct answer, and this person guessed Velvet Elvis as the band for both 1986 and 1987. The other two entries did not know the band from 1986 and both incorrectly guessed Velvet Elvis for the 1987 band. The entry that arrived after the deadline correctly guessed the name of the band from 1986.
If our memories are correct (and we have no way of verifying this), Velvet Elvis was such a success for the 1986 prom that the Junior Class, in 1987, attempted to get Velvet Elvis again for our senior prom, but were unable to seal the deal. While Paradox were a competent cover band, they were no Velvet Elvis, at least in our humble opinion. We also seem to recall that Decembrist Uprise, the band featuring Otto Helmuth, Chad Ward and Stephen Jett were considered at one point to be the prom band, but they declined because if they were the band, they would be unable to "enjoy" the prom (although you may recall that Decembrist Uprise plus James Abner did perform one song at the prom).
| A historical artifact: An original LP of Velvet Elvis' 1988 debut and only major-label record. The band broke up in 1990, but reunited in 1998 for one show in Lexington as part of the Ace Magazine Holiday Party tour (in support of the Ace Magazine Holiday Party CD, the first volume being co-produced by Otto Helmuth). |

THIS WEEK'S WINNER: |
Congratulations, Tamra, your name will be entered into the random drawing that will be held at the end of this competition for the Grand Prize.
There were no second place winners in this week's contest.
If we were to grade the questions based on difficulty, this one would have been "hard" while last week's would have been "easy" and the first question would have been "medium" ... next week's question will also be a "medium" but it will also be a matching question, so the answer can probably be deduced by simple logic. Tune in next Wednesday at 9AM EST to find out!
