Easter eggs. You know what they are. Little treats hidden away to be uncovered and enjoyed. On DVDs, these are those little hidden features that are tucked away in plain sight, one click away from a blooper reel or some secret gallery. Completely unnecessary and unimportant for enjoyment of the feature attraction, but still a neat thing to discover.
The same principle applies to web pages. Although not quite as prevalent, there are, nonetheless, a number of websites that contain hidden features -- a link that is not necessarily indicated to be a link, or an area on the webpage that turns your pointer into a hand for no discernable reason and a simple click of the mouse takes you to someplace that canntot be found on the site index of the page. Those types of online easter eggs. Maybe you've encountered them in the past, maybe you haven't.
Here at the MLHS Class of 1987 Archive of Stuff website, we have been hiding easter eggs since the very first day the site went online. And based on the reports generated by our stat bots, no one has stumbled upon them yet, which either means that we hid them almost too well, or no one has gone through the site clicking their mouse randomly in every area on every page (which we don't expect anyone to actually do, although we know of some people who actually do this on a regular basis). Anyway, we are taking this moment to let you know that there are, as of Easter Sunday 2007, at least three easter eggs hidden on this site, including one that is hidden on this very page.
Where do these easter eggs lead to? Obviously, nothing that you couldn't live without. But if you are curious, and want to go searching for them, then you might find some secret image galleries, extra bonus material from the trivia contests, and some stuff that we would rather not tell you about right now (just so you'll be surprised when you do stumble upon them).
In fact, just because we want you to look for them, we're going to give you a free one:
- Go to the report for the results of Week One of the Trivia Contest section (link opens in a new window).
- Scroll down to the photo of the "Junior Miss and her court"
- Look at the line of text directly underneath the photo, where it says "Taken from The Richmond Register, dated June 10, 1986."
- Move your pointer over the period at the end of that sentence until it turns into a hand, and click.
So, there you go. Search for them if you wish. Good luck. And if you do happen to find any of them, please drop us a line at mhs87@jlk512.com, so at least we know that someone is looking.
