Easter eggs. You know what they are. Little treats hidden away to be uncovered and enjoyed. On DVDs, these are those little hidden features that are tucked away in plain sight, one click away from a blooper reel or some secret gallery. Completely unnecessary and unimportant for enjoyment of the feature attraction, but still a neat thing to discover.
The same principle applies to web pages. Although not quite as prevalent, there are, nonetheless, a number of websites that contain hidden features -- a link that is not necessarily indicated to be a link, or an area on the webpage that turns your pointer into a hand for no discernable reason and a simple click of the mouse takes you to someplace that canntot be found on the site index of the page. Those types of online easter eggs. Maybe you've encountered them in the past, maybe you haven't.
Here at the FADS-MHSBAND website, we have been hiding easter eggs since the very first day the site went online. And based on the reports generated by our stat bots, no one has stumbled upon them yet, which either means that we hid them almost too well, or no one has gone through the site clicking their mouse randomly in every area on every page (which we don't expect anyone to actually do, although we know of some people who actually do this on a regular basis). Anyway, we are taking this moment to let you know that there are, as of Easter Sunday 2006, at least seven easter eggs hidden on this site. For that matter, there is one hidden on this very page.
Where do these easter eggs lead to? Obviously, nothing that you couldn't live without. But if you are curious, and want to go searching for them, then you might find some secret image galleries, a bunch of bonus videos (including Shay Quillen lip synching to "Born to Be Wild"), and a whole section devoted to commentary, deleted scenes and extended scenes from the 1985 Band Christmas Party.
In fact, just because we want you to look for them, we're going to give you a free one:
- Go to the Gallery section (link opens in a new window).
- Click on "Yearbook Photos"
- Click on the image for the 1984-1985 Yearbook Page
- Scroll down to the very bottom. In the black area above the copyright notice, you might observe that the area is a little bit wider than it is on other pages. Center the pointer in this area until it turns into a hand, and click through for a feature article on "uniform violations"
So, there you go. Search for them if you wish. Good luck. And if you do happen to find any of them, please drop us a line at mhsband@jlk512.com, so at least we know that someone is looking.
